Ossining Girls Soccer England Tour: August 12-21, 2011

A mix of the OHS Girls Soccer Varsity & JV team’s (19 players) spent 10 days in England this mid-August.

Coach Phil Ishmael and Coach Pam Barcia combined superb playing opportunities together with plenty of time to visit historical and cultural sites that England and Wales have to offer.

Besides playing the tourist by seeing all the sites in London, and to the north in Chester, the girls participated in training sessions conducted by recognized United Kingdom trainers, each associated with the English Premier Leagues whether as staff and/or past players.

Further, the girls engaged in 4 matches with comparatively aged club or academy teams, the first from Maidstone, just south of London.  The latter three games were against teams from Bolton, Bery and Northup, where the matches were in Manchester, and in Wales respectively

While in the north, the girls additionally visited castles, Stratford on Avon, and continued to interact with true English country culture.

Additionally, the group attended two season “home opening” English Premier League games for Fulham vs Aston Villa, and Everton vs. Queens Park Rangers, along with visits to Stamford Bridge, Old Trafford, and Anfield; the home stadium’s of the Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool professional clubs.

The net result of the trip was a game record of 2-1-1, along with an abundance of new friendships, vivid memories of England while developing a deep respect for “soccer” where the sport was born, and genuinely bonding as a team!
